GLP
Graduated Licencing Program
GLP stands for Graduated Licencing Program. Graduated Licensing was initiated by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) in 1998 to make Driver Training a “graduated” process that may or may not include driver training. All DriveWise FULL programs that include at least eighteen hours of classroom and sixteen forty-five minute in-car lessons are considered ICBC approved and will allow students who qualify to be issued a Declaration of Completion form. Students may submit this form to ICBC on their road test day and receive a six month reduction in the “N” phase of the GLP*. High school students may submit this form to their school counsellor and receive two high school credits towards graduation–providing that they complete the DriveWise program within one year and pass all necessary evaluations.
*New drivers who successfully complete an ICBC-Approved Driver Education Course in the Learner stage may receive a six month reduction of their Novice stage if the driver remains violation-free and at-fault crash-free for the first eighteen months of the Novice stage.
